I’ve had so many people ask me how I lost weight (FAT). So I have decided to share my personal story of how I lost weight and the 4 things that I did that were serious game changers for me! I really wish I would have known about these things a long time ago but at least I know now and am able to share them with you!

My Story

New Beginnings

When I moved to Upstate New York for the first time in 2014 I was really excited and a little nervous. I had just moved away from the place that I was born and raised (Orange County, CA) for the first time ever. I moved away from family and friends. What I didn’t quite realize, at the time, was that I was also moving away from a lifestyle. This was a lifestyle that I was so used to. It never really occurred to me that other parts of the country would be any different. Idk maybe I’m naive.

Convenient

What I mean when I say lifestyle is that I was used to living somewhere that was convenient, everything I needed was readily accessible. I wouldn’t have to drive more than a mile or two and there would be just about any store I needed. There were affordable gyms everywhere, countless health food stores and the choices you’d have for restaurants and cafe’s were endless (healthy ones)! I could walk across the street to the beach and run the stairs or go for a long walk, any time of year.

Here’s What I Realized…

I believe that was my biggest downfall. Not having things I was accustom to, accessible. I believe that and not being around my friends and family anymore because that’s who I would workout and go out to dinner with. Once those two things were not around, things started to unravel pretty fast. In about a year and a half, I gained nearly 80 lbs!!

I Lost Myself

It was devastating. I was so ashamed, embarrassed, miserable, uncomfortable. My family was concerned about my health and so was I. I dreaded getting dressed every day because the bigger clothes that I had bought myself were tight. I was in a deep depression. Although I didn’t like what I saw anymore, I had no motivation to turn it around. I felt hopeless. In the Summer of 2016, I moved back to California. Despite not really feeling motivated to even try to get back into shape, I went on walks with my family. It was all my body could handle and let me tell you, it was hard. I could not move very fast at all, I was winded after 5 minutes. I was eating better too but I didn’t really have a game plan.

How I Lost Weight (FAT)

In January 2017 I weighed 258 lbs. and for me at 5’5″ tall, that was not healthy. I finally decided to take things seriously but I knew I had to be patient. If you really want to burn the excess fat and tone up then keep reading! Your weight loss journey will be full of ups and downs. The important thing is to never forget what got you started in the first place. This journey is a time for personal growth because you become more in tune with your body. You will gain confidence, health, energy and so much more. You will inspire those around you too!

Below I’m going to share with you how I lost weight. These 4 things are what resulted in my 83 Lbs transformation!

1. Mindset

How I lost weight first started with my mindset. Weight loss doesn’t start with exercise or nutrition that’s only half the battle. Anyone who begins a weight loss journey should do so with a Marathon Mindset. When I made the commitment to lose weight, I knew I’d need to start by making small changes and being consistent.

2. Keto

I’ll go more into the specifics in another post so for now, I’m going to keep this simple. A ketogenic diet consists of high fat, moderate protein and low carbs. The objective of following the diet is to get your body into a state of ketosis. When you are in ketosis your body starts to tap into its own fat stores to use as fuel, instead of glucose. Weight loss is not the only benefit of going keto, though. It also helps boost your energy levels and gives you better mental focus and memory. There is a very long list of benefits that I will definitely be talking about in the future.

3. Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting is essentially an eating pattern. I like to call it strategic eating! All you are doing is eating within a specified time frame and fasting the rest of the time. This was also something I did that accelerated my weight loss even more. Incorporating intermittent fasting while following a ketogenic lifestyle work really well together.

Did you know that intermittent fasting actually induces ketosis? There are different fasting schedules you can follow. The one that I follow is the 16/8 fast which is the most popular. This means I fast for 16 hours and can eat my meals within an 8-hour window. Intermittent fasting also has a lot of health benefits as well. IF boosts your body’s human growth hormone production. This is great news if you want to get rid of fat and build lean muscle mass. Intermittent fasting also induces cell repair and can even add years to your life!

4. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

If you want to burn more fat in less time then this is what you should be doing (if you’re not already). High-Intensity Interval Training can be done at home with or without equipment. All you need is 20 – 30 mins a day. I personally would alternate my days of different types of HIIT. One day I’d do HIIT on the treadmill (on a steep incline) and the next I’d to bodyweight style workouts.

#TIP: To burn the maximum amount of FAT do this in the morning while you’re still in a fasted state and watch the fat melt off your body! ?
